Ko Wai Ahau: (Self Concept, self-knowledge)
Question: what makes you YOU?
These attributes of YOU are your personal self as you know and identify yourself. You may not want everyone to know your personal self but you will share with others what you want them to know about you. These attributes are personal but they are already firm in your own mind contributing to your self concept.
Some of your personal identities will be informed by social identities (e.g., age, race, gender). Early experiences, both positive and negative, help us to learn about ourselves. If we are constantly surrounded by negative experiences we may learn a learned helplessness. On the other hand if we are experiencing predominantly positive experiences this develops our self-confidence and feelings of empowerment.
